History of CRMS

Cowan Road Middle School opened its doors in August 2000 under the leadership of Laura Youmans.  In August 2001, Mr. Hobie Davenport became the principal at Cowan Road Middle School and served as principal for seven years. During Mr. Davenport’s tenure, the Spalding County Athletic Committee decided to create the Junior Varsity athletic teams at the middle school level.  This move provided many seventh and eighth grade students an opportunity to showcase their talents on the field of their play.  The inaugural year, 2004 and several years following, Cowan Road Middle School experienced winning seasons in both girls’ softball and basketball.

In 2008, Ms. Rachelle Heggie served as principal of Cowan Road Middle School for seven years.  During Ms. Heggie’s tenure, the athletic department continued its success.
