Student Dress Code

Students who are found to be in violation of the dress code are subject to disciplinary action. Highlights of the student dress code include these provisions:

1.   Obscene pictures, symbols, gang paraphernalia, depictions of weapons, illegal drugs, tobacco products or alcoholic beverages, inflammatory, suggestive, racial, or other inappropriate writing, advertisement, or artwork shall not appear on clothing.

2.   Extremes of dress shall not be permitted. These include lack of cleanliness, bare feet, house shoes, bare midriffs, sleeveless shirts (must be three fingers wide), see-through clothing, pajamas, spandex pants (jeggings), etc. 

3.   When leggings are worn, a dress, skirt, or shirt must be worn over the leggings to fingertip length at the natural hand position or longer. Sheer or cut panels must be below the knee.

4.   Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be knee length or longer

5.   Clothing which is cut, slashed, or has holes and exposes skin above the knee is prohibited (any frays above the knee must have clothing underneath).

6.   Sagging pants are not allowed, and pants must be worn at the waist. 

7.   All gym shorts worn throughout the building must be one inch from the top of the knee.

8.   Head coverings (to include scarfs, bandannas, hats and/or hoods) are not allowed in the building during the instructional day.

9.   Only clear/mesh backpacks are permitted. Purses must not be larger than 12 inches length. Athletes who have bookbags must check their book bags in with their coaches by 8:35 am.

Disciplinary actions may include:

  • Counseling the student  

  • Warning the student

  • Restorative practices 

  • Calling parents to bring a change of clothes 

  • Administrative detention 

  • Alternative discipline

  • Placing the student in In-School Intervention for the remainder of the day  

  • Suspending the student short term, or  

  • Recommending long-term suspension (for flagrant or repeated violations) 

All clothing is to be worn appropriately and in the manner for which it was designed. The school reserves the right to establish rules during the school year regarding new fashions in dress. Principal discretion applies to all of the above.
