Social Studies

The high school social studies curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the world around them, both past and present. It encompasses a range of subjects such as history, geography, economics, political science, and sociology. Throughout the curriculum, students explore various historical events, cultural movements, and societal structures to develop critical thinking skills and a global perspective. They analyze primary and secondary sources, engage in research, and participate in discussions to gain insights into different cultures, ideologies, and systems of governance. The social studies curriculum aims to foster civic engagement, promote cultural awareness, and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed and active members of society.

Griffin High School also provides a variety of elective courses in law, history, military history, psychology and Advanced Placement courses for those students who are interested in pursuing various disciplines of the Social Studies to a greater depth.
