At the Douglas County HS band competition the Griffin Band of Gold won 2nd place drum major/percussion/band in our category, 1st place flag/dance in our category, the drum major/dancers/flags received a superior rating, and the band/percussion received an excellent rating!

Today GHS celebrated National Custodian Day to recognize and show appreciation to our beloved custodians who keep our school facilities clean. Our custodians were treated to an appreciation luncheon and received tokens of appreciation for all of their hard work and dedication to our school, our scholars, and staff.

Last week, in a time of great need, Griffin High School Counselor Jocasta Odom graciously volunteered to represent GSCS at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. She joined counselors from around the state to provide needed counseling services as classes resumed after the horrific school shooting. Thank you, Jocasta, for representing GSCS so well!
Scholars and teachers, join us as we celebrate National HIspanic Heritage Month Spirit Week Sept 30th - Oct. 4th. Please note the events for each day of the week. Scholars will also enjoy different activities during lunch each day in the Commons.
Due to weather associated with Hurricane Helene and in consideration of the recommendation by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/ Homeland Security (GEMA/HS), all Griffin-Spalding County School District operations will be canceled on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27.
What you should Know:
• Tropical Storm Watch for the next 48 hours.
• Flood Watch for the next 48 hours.
• A State of Emergency has been declared by Governor Kemp.
The safety of our staff and students is our highest priority. During this weather event, we are expecting high flood risk in low lying areas, 10 to fifteen 15 of rain, very high winds and possible widespread damage. The worst wind and weather is anticipated Thursday night into Friday morning. Please stay weather aware.
GSCS Extracurricular activities for middle and high school students are canceled for today, Wednesday September 25, in anticipation of inclement weather this evening. The elementary afterschool program will still provide service today. The elementary school literacy night events scheduled for tomorrow evening, Thursday September 26, will be rescheduled to a later date. GSCS is continuing to work closely with Emergency Management and Weather Experts to monitor potential weather events. Any additional updates will be provided through the GSCS app and other communication channels.
